A 216-page hardcover book that makes the case for women in the Catholic priesthood - even though the hierarchy of the Church has traditionally opposed the idea, based largely on their belief that Christ wanted a male-only priesthood for all time. The author, a renowned theologian, disputes that ultra-conservative viewpoint and explains why it is in the Church's best interest to ordain women. (Author: John Wijngaards, DD, LSS. ISBN: 0-9995884-4-3. Price $16.95, hardcover.)
JOHN WIJNGAARDS, DD, LSS, is an internationally renowned theologian and Scripture scholar and is founder of the Wijngaards Institute for Catholic Research, headquartered in London. He is one of the leading voices in the worldwide movement to include women in the Catholic priesthood.
A former Mill Hill Missionary and vicar general of his Congregation, he resigned from the priestly ministry in 1998 because of a conflict of conscience over the Church’s refusal to ordain women. His Institute’s website, www.womenpriests.org, offers thousands of documents, in 26 languages, related to the subject of women’s ordination.
